Elite Access Control Installation: The West Hollywood Owner’s Guide
Elite access control installation in West Hollywood typically runs $450 to $1,400 installed, depending on whether we’re replacing a failed keypad, a receiver board, or the full entry system. Ironworks Gate Co. stocks Elite-compatible parts on our trucks, and most replacements are completed in a single visit. The way most homeowners discover the failure is unglamorous: the keypad stops responding at 7 a.m. on a Monday, the remote works only from ten feet away, or the gate opens on its own at 2 a.m. Those are all access control failures, not the gate motor itself, and they need a different diagnosis than a mechanical repair.
We’re an independent service provider. We are not affiliated with Elite, but we have installed and repaired their access control equipment across West Hollywood for years, which means we know exactly which components fail first, which Elite series they belong to, and what a correct fix looks like.
Which Elite Models This Applies To
Elite access control spans several product generations, and the compatibility gotcha is real: parts are not cross-compatible across series. The Elite SL-3000 and SL-3000UL slide gate operators use a different control board and keypad protocol than the Elite CSW200 and CSW200UL swing gate series, and none of them share components with the newer MiM (Miracle) line. If you pull a keypad off an SL-3000 and try to wire it into a CSW200, it will not talk to the board. Period.
The reliable way to identify what you need is the model label inside the operator housing. Every Elite operator carries a silver or white sticker with the series prefix (SL, CSW, MiM) and a serial number. We ask homeowners to snap a photo of that label before we arrive; it saves a trip and eliminates guesswork. For most West Hollywood homeowners, the choice between OEM Elite parts and quality aftermarket equivalents comes down to this: OEM matches exactly, while a well-chosen aftermarket keypad or receiver from a supplier we trust can be $80 to $200 cheaper and last just as long. We stock both and will tell you straight which is worth the money on your specific model.
One thing we’ve learned from years of installing Elite gear in West Hollywood: the California sun is harder on external keypads than anything else in the system. The UV degradation cracks the membrane and bleaches the buttons within four to six years on an unshaded west-facing wall. It’s not a defect. It’s geography.
Signs Your Elite Access Control Installation Is Failing
- The keypad accepts the code but the gate doesn’t move. This is usually a failed relay on the control board or a broken wire between the keypad and the operator. The keypad believes it worked; the board never got the message.
- The remote works only at very close range. If you’re holding the remote against the receiver housing to get a response, the receiver antenna or the receiver module itself is degrading. We see this on Elite units that are eight to ten years old, pretty consistently.
- The gate opens by itself, usually at night. A phantom open is almost always a failing receiver picking up stray RF interference, or a control board with a corroded trace. This one gets homeowners’ attention fast because it’s a security issue, not just an annoyance.
- Two keypads work, but a third does nothing. Elite systems wired with multiple keypads share a single data bus. One dead keypad can drag the whole bus down, but sometimes a failed keypad alone needs replacement while the rest of the system stays healthy.
- The keypad buttons need to be pressed hard or several times. The membrane contact pads are worn. It’s a mechanical wear issue, not a wiring one, and the fix is a new keypad face or full keypad unit. In West Hollywood, sun exposure accelerates this considerably.
Replacement Cost & What’s Included
In West Hollywood, here’s what we actually quote. A single keypad replacement lands between $450 and $700 installed. A receiver module or receiver board runs $350 to $600. A full control board replacement runs $600 to $1,100. A complete access control refresh, meaning new keypad, new receiver, and reprogrammed remotes, sits between $800 and $1,400 depending on the Elite series and the number of keypads or remotes involved.
Every quote is given and agreed before any work starts. That is not negotiable at Ironworks Gate Co. The price we quote is the price you pay. Each installation includes the part, labor, wiring verification at the operator and keypad, programming of your existing remotes, and a test cycle to confirm the gate responds correctly. Every completed job is covered by our written 90-Day Done Right Promise. If it’s not right, we come back and make it right, no arguing.
DIY or Call Us?
Access control work is low-voltage, which makes it far safer than working on springs or motors. That said, there are places where a homeowner can create a bigger problem. The control board on an Elite operator carries live 120-volt wiring on one side of the enclosure. The low-voltage terminals are the safe side; the line-voltage lugs are not. If you’re not comfortable identifying which is which, do not open the operator housing.
What a homeowner can do safely: check that the keypad has power, check for obvious sun damage or cracked buttons, and confirm the breakers are on. What we’d rather you not do: rewire terminals, swap a board, or splice into the bus wiring. The service call is cheaper than replacing a board you shorted. If the gate’s giving you trouble, let’s take a look at it, no guessing, no upselling, just a straight answer. Call us at (442) 255-3886.
FAQs
Expect four to seven years from an exterior keypad in West Hollywood, depending on sun exposure and wall orientation. A keypad on a shaded wall may reach eight years; one facing west with no coverage can begin failing at four. We also stock and service LiftMaster, Mighty Mule, and Ghost Controls access control parts for homeowners with other brands on the driveway.
Occasionally. A keypad with a worn membrane can sometimes be re-faced, but internal corrosion or a dead transmitter typically means replacement. We’ll tell you which path makes sense on your model, and we won’t sell you a replacement where a honest repair gets the same result. Call (442) 255-3886 and we’ll talk it through.
Most access control replacements on Elite systems take 60 to 90 minutes on site. If we’re replacing a control board, add another 30 minutes for programming and testing. We carry the common parts on the truck, which is why most jobs get finished in a single visit.
Yes. We carry common Elite keypads, receiver modules, and control boards on our service vehicles, along with aftermarket equivalents where they make sense. If your series needs a less common part, we can order it and return to install it, typically within two to three business days in West Hollywood.
